With my sister at Kayangan Lake.
Kayangan Lake is a mix of 70% freshwater and 30% saltwater, surrounded by jagged limestone cliffs and underwater rock formations. The famous panoramic viewpoint can be reached via a 360-step hike. Barracuda Lake is a surreal destination surrounded by towering limestone karsts and dramatic underwater rock formations. It offers a unique swimming, snorkelling, and diving experience. 3. Twin Peaks Reef
With depths ranging from 5 to 25 metres, Twin Peaks Reef is a popular dive site known for its diverse marine life and colourful coral gardens. The site features two coral-covered pinnacles that create a vibrant underwater landscape. Depending on the season, divers may encounter a variety of fish and, on occasion, sea turtles.
4. Twin Lagoon
Twin Lagoon is divided by a towering limestone wall, while the surrounding cliffs shield the area from strong currents and tides, keeping the water calm. You can end the day with a refreshing swim or join a guided kayak tour between the two lagoons. Often timed around the golden hour, paddling across the tranquil waters at your own pace is both relaxing and invigorating.
5. Wreck Diving
Coron is home to several wreck diving sites, featuring a fleet of well-preserved Japanese supply ships from World War II. The Lusong Gunboat is ideal for beginners, while the Irako rests at a deeper depth of around 40 metres. This activity is suitable for divers with an Open Water certification, while those wishing to penetrate the shipwrecks will typically need an Advanced Open Water or Wreck Diver certification.
6. Malcapuya Island
About 1.5 – 2 hours from Coron town proper, Malcapuya Island boasts powdery white sand and clear turquoise waters. Here, you can swim, snorkel over coral reefs just offshore, or simply laze under the palm trees lining the coast. Tip: Visit early in the day or on weekdays to avoid the crowds and the midday heat.
7. Banana Island
Another laid-back island-hopping stop is Banana Island, officially known as Dicalabuan Island. It earned its nickname from its distinctive crescent shape. This privately owned tropical gem is more developed than many of its neighbouring islands. It also features a scenic sandbar, perfect for relaxing and taking in the views.
8. Maquinit Hot Springs
