Here's the lowdown on my first time staying in a cave hotel – the most famous type of accommodation in Cappadocia.
We arrived in Cappadocia from Antalya via an overnight FlixBus ride. As soon as we got off the bus, noticeably colder weather greeted us. Just a five-minute walk from Göreme’s town centre, we checked into the most interesting accommodation of our entire Turkey trip: Hera Cave Suites. Thanks to the region’s soft volcanic rock, which was historically carved into homes, many cave hotels exist in Cappadocia. Curious what it’s like to stay in one? Here’s my experience.
Hera Cave Suites review: Everything you need to know
Hera Cave Suites is a visual delight, with every room, corner and terrace thoughtfully decorated to showcase Cappadocia’s unique history. In their fabulous lobby, the reception staff welcomed us warmly and assisted us immediately. They allowed an early check-in and even upgraded us to a Family Suite Cave. I usually prefer carrying my own luggage, but they kindly helped me up to the third floor, where our room was located.

All of the original cave walls have been preserved and thoughtfully integrated into the room designs. When you hear the word “cave”, you might expect something outdated or dilapidated. While certainly different from a typical hotel room, our cave suite was cosy, comfortable, and well-equipped. Each room features air-conditioning, a safe, minibar, bathroom amenities and complimentary Wi-Fi.

The common area included a sofa and table, while my bedroom featured a large circular king-size bed. Two smaller beds were in an adjoining room where my friends stayed. The shared bathroom had a bathtub, ideal for relaxing after a full day of activities.
A delightful breakfast buffet

Nuts and fruits galore ❤️ Photo: Lord Acuña
Hera Cave Suites’ breakfast buffet features over 40 homemade local dishes and items, including jams, freshly baked bread, a variety of local cheeses, organic fruits, and other regional treats. The spacious breakfast room is located in the basement, yet small windows allow natural light to filter in. Upon entering, the staff greet you cheerfully and are quick to offer assistance.
Rooftop terrace: Relax and take photos

The hotel features a rooftop terrace offering sweeping morning views of hot air balloons floating over Göreme. During summer, afternoons can be quite hot, so it’s better to visit in the morning or later in the evening. We stopped by after returning from our own hot air balloon ride, capturing a few photos just before the balloons disappeared from the sky.
Verdict: Hera Cave Suites is great value for money

Our three-bed suite cost SGD 385 per night during the peak summer season. Since we only stayed for one night, we were happy to splurge a little. Splitting the cost with my friends made it feel more manageable. With its unique rooms, excellent location, 24-hour front desk and concierge service, and lovely breakfast buffet, Hera Cave Suites offers great value for money.
