Is the coveted BTS Meal from McDonald’s worth the hype?

The day has finally come for the BTS ARMYs and casual fans in Singapore to try the McDonald's BTS Meal.

Yesterday, 21 June, the dine-in restriction in Singapore has finally been lifted after a month of scaling back to Phase 2 (heightened alert). And on the very same day was the arrival of the most-awaited BTS Meal, a collaboration between McDonald’s and the most famous boy band from South Korea at the moment, BTS.

To prevent a chaotic frenzy like what happened in Indonesia, McDonald’s Singapore has announced on their website that the BTS Meal is available on delivery only. This is a great move from the brand to help keep the number of Covid cases in Singapore low. Safety first for everyone!

When to order the BTS Meal?

The BTS Meal is available only after breakfast hours (11:00 AM onwards). And like thousands of curious fans, I tried to order mine for lunch via Grab, but the stores keep getting “closed”. Of course, there are some who were lucky to get it as the availability varies from location to location. Getting your hands on this meal may not be smooth as butter, but after trying to order it again in the afternoon I managed to finally snag the most coveted meal of the day!

What comes with it?

It consists of Chicken McNuggets® (9 pieces), two new limited-time sauces – Sweet Chili and Cajun, large fries and large Coke® Original Taste (less sugar). Unfortunately, the BTS-branded brown bag is not available in Singapore, we only get the BTS-branded Chicken McNuggets box and drink cup.

The verdict on the taste

To be perfectly honest, the nuggets, fries and drink tasted just the same as the regular ones. I must say thought that the sauces tasted like dynamite. 😉 The selling price for the BTS Meal in Singapore is S$8.90 (before the delivery and other fees). Other meals from McDonald’s are around the same price, so you can’t really expect the BTS Meal to be extremely different. It may be overhyped, but it’s a pretty good snack for an affordable price.

To keep or throw away?

In Malaysia, there was a viral post of die-hard fans who rinsed and dried the BTS Meal packaging to keep as a memorabilia. Truly a borahae moment!

And unsurprisingly, marketplaces like Carousell is now flooded with listings of the BTS Meal packaging at crazy prices. Something that some collectors would probably actually pay for! While the BTS Meal is only available for a limited time, I didn’t keep mine as I think I can just buy again in the next few weeks.
